Airfix MCDONNELL DOUGLAS PHANTOM FGR.2

The Royal Air Force redesigned their close air support/strike capabilities in the 1950s and 1960s. They expected domestic British aircraft to serve these roles but were forced to look overseas for their new aircraft due to skyrocketing production costs and government involvement. As one of the most efficient multi-role jet aircraft in the world, the Phantom was acquired for both the Royal Navy and the RAF. It served while the British aviation industry was in a time of great difficulty, and it showed itself to be a capable aircraft in service in the UK.
