Developed in response to Germany's Me 262, the F80 Shooting Star was one of the first jet-powered USAAF aircraft. The airframe was designed in secret by a team called Skunk Works in less than 150 days. In testing, the Shooting Star displayed impressive flight characteristics and managed to obtain a top speed of 500mph. Although the new aircraft didn't see combat in World War II, it did see use in the early stages of the Korean War.
