The Churchill Bridge Layer was an effective piece of equipment, able to deploy within one-and-a-half minutes and carry wheeled and tracked loads over a 30-foot gap. The bridge sections were generally constructed in a single piece and then attached to the tank with a launching arm that extended the section across the gap by way of a pivot arm.
