The M3 Grant (Lee in the U.S.) operated as an essential and effective tank during the North African campaign and vastly improved on previous British developments. However, its high profile and 75mm fuselage-mounted gun actually worked against the effectiveness of the tank, forcing the tank commander's job harder to strategize against enemy tanks.
